Project overview

About Sizewell C

Sizewell C is a new 3.2GW nuclear power station being built on the Suffolk coast, alongside the existing Sizewell B plant. The project uses the same European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) design as Hinkley Point C, applying lessons learned from that programme to help manage cost and schedule risk.

Following the Final Investment Decision in July 2025, site construction is now under way. Sizewell C is expected to begin operating from the late 2030s and is designed to generate enough low-carbon electricity to power around six million homes for at least 60 years.

At peak construction, the programme is expected to support around 17,000 jobs, including approximately 7,900 in Suffolk. It is also expected to create at least 1,500 apprenticeships, involve more than 3,000 UK-based suppliers and support around 70,000 jobs through the wider UK supply chain.

Once operational, Sizewell C is expected to directly employ several hundred people on a long-term basis.

As the programme progresses from early works and civil construction through mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and operational readiness, it will require a wide range of specialist skills at different stages of delivery.

Local presence in Suffolk

Supporting Sizewell C also means understanding the region in which the project is being delivered. Rullion has strengthened its physical presence in Suffolk with an office at 70–72 The Havens, Ransomes Europark, Ipswich, alongside membership of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Located close to the A14 and A12, with connections to the Port of Felixstowe, East Anglia, and the Midlands, our Ipswich office provides an established base for supporting clients, candidates, and supply chain organisations across Suffolk and the wider region.

Helping candidates become site-ready

For many nuclear new build roles, having the right skills and experience is only part of becoming site-ready. Candidates may also need to complete BPSS screening, right-to-work checks, references, vetting, site onboarding and other project-specific compliance requirements before they can start work.

Our team helps you understand what is required and guides you through the process. Candidates using Rullion’s background screening service are supported by a dedicated screening consultant who can answer questions, provide updates and help keep things moving. As checks from other regulated industries or projects may not always transfer into a nuclear environment, preparing early can help make the route to becoming site-ready clearer.

How we work

Supporting the workforce needs of nuclear new build

Sizewell C is progressing alongside other major nuclear, infrastructure and energy programmes, creating significant competition for experienced talent. Across nuclear new build, workforce delivery also means getting people mobilised safely and compliantly, at the right stage of the programme.

Competition for specialist talent

Engineering, commissioning, project controls, commercial and construction professionals are in demand across multiple major infrastructure programmes, increasing competition for experienced people.

Compliance & site readiness

BPSS screening, vetting, right-to-work checks, references and project-specific onboarding can all affect mobilisation. Clear communication and well-managed screening help candidates move through these requirements efficiently.

Governance & supplier assurance

Major infrastructure programmes require more than recruitment. Suppliers also need robust compliance processes, workforce visibility, controlled onboarding, IR35 awareness and audit-ready documentation.

Scaling workforces safely

Workforce needs evolve as projects move from civils through mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and operational readiness. The challenge is to bring the right skills onto the programme safely, compliantly, and at the right time.
