What to expect when you apply through Rullion

From your first application to your first day — here's the full picture.

Every role is different, and the process varies depending on the client and type of position. But there's a consistent shape to how applications work through Rullion. This page walks you through each stage in order, so you know what's coming and what we need from you at every step.

Your application, step by step

Find and apply for a role

Browse our vacancies and apply for the roles that match your skills and availability. You can apply directly through the job listing, upload your CV to register for roles that suit your profile, or contact a consultant if you're not sure where to start. Your application lands with the Rullion consultant responsible for that role.

Your consultant reviews your application against the role requirements. They'll look at your skills, experience, and availability. You'll hear back within a few working days - and if a role isn't right, they may have alternatives in mind.

If your application looks like a strong fit, your consultant will arrange a call to find out more about you. This is a conversation, not a formal interview. They'll cover your experience, what you're looking for, your availability, and any questions you have about the role or the client. It's also your chance to ask anything about the process from here.

If both you and your consultant are happy to proceed, your consultant submits your CV to the hiring manager on your behalf. They'll prepare the submission carefully and brief you on what the client is looking for. You'll hear back once the client has reviewed applications.

If the client wants to meet you, your consultant will arrange the interview and brief you beforehand. Most interviews use a competency-based format. Some roles include an assessment stage before the interview, your consultant will let you know if this applies and what to expect. Some positions involve more than one interview stage. Your consultant will keep you updated at every point.

CV and interview help

If you're successful, your consultant will contact you with the offer details: rate, start date, contract length, and working arrangements. Ask anything at this stage - your consultant can clarify terms and liaise with the client if needed. Once you've accepted, the next step is onboarding.

Once your offer is accepted, Rullion's Candidate Services team will guide you through the onboarding process. This includes right to work checks, document submission, and payroll set-up. Your start date is confirmed once all checks are complete. For a full breakdown of what's involved, see our onboarding guide.

Key Information Documents

It depends on how you're engaged. If you work as a PAYE temporary worker, Rullion is your employer. If you work through your own limited company, you are your own employer. If you work through an umbrella company, the umbrella company is your employer. Your consultant will confirm your employment status before you start.

The Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) give temporary agency workers the right to the same basic working and employment conditions as permanent employees after 12 weeks in the same role with the same client — including equal pay, working hours, and rest periods. AWR applies to PAYE and umbrella workers but generally not to contractors working through their own limited company. For full details, visit GOV.UK's agency worker rights guidance. Your consultant can also confirm how AWR applies to your specific situation.
